Baileys Int Wild at the Inland Sea

It’s been a few months since we uploaded our previous video, and there hasn’t been much information as to where we disappeared to, or most importantly, why? This blog will hopefully clear that up, and will also provide some insight into the direction of our channel.

The biggest thing that happened was that Mum caught Covid-19. Her health had already been in a steady decline up until that point, so making sure she was healthy again, became our priority. So, we spent the summer doing activities that would build her strength back up, especially since she now has the motivation and energy to try to ‘hopefully’, become healthier. We hope she’ll eventually get to the point where she doesn’t need the wheelchair any more, but we’ll see how that goes. She’s getting there, but it may still take a long, long while. In her words, “one step at a time (pun intended)”.

In our effort to get Mum exercising, we decided to get ourselves a canoe (and all the paraphernalia/safety gear that is needed for that), and have since spent this summer canoeing, and kayaking as often as we can. More often than not, with the excellent disability charity, SEAS Sailability (we even earned some basic certificates). We really enjoy it, and there will be several blogs written about our adventures, and maybe even some footage we could place into a catch-up video.

I also have a new job, and so a lot of my personal time has been taken over with that, however I do enjoy it. Finally, one of the other large things that has happened recently is that Mum’s business had a huge cyberattack that we’ve also had to fend off. All of this has gobbled up our summer before we really knew where it had gone.

We do love this project though; Firefly, being outdoors, the channel — all of it! We still have the intention of finishing the sailboat, and taking you all with us, on the many adventures we intend to go on, with her. Plus, there are also all the walks, cycling trips, watersports adventures, and more around North Wales and beyond that we still plan to do. It’s definitely much easier having our own canoe (named Serenity).

We were always meant to be an adventure channel, with a disability access/health twist, but for obvious reasons, we quickly became a ‘rebuilding Firefly channel’. This has thrown us off somewhat, as when we’re not at the boat, we forget to film, despite being active. Ultimately, Firefly would be finished sometime in the future anyway, and we’d have to quickly switch our channel over to an ‘adventure/learning to sail’ channel, which would be difficult. Better, we think, that we intersperse outdoor content, with the restoration, now, to build the channel in the way we envisaged.

Obviously, because of all of the above reasons (plus we don’t like constantly moaning), the videos can not be on a regular schedule from now on. It would be too much added strain on our already packed schedule. What I think we intend to do instead, is to upload any videos as soon as they are completed. We do want to share our journey with you, though, so it’s very important that you click that little bell on YouTube!

We have a decent amount of spare footage from before we went A.W.O.L, from an episode that we recorded the majority of, but never released. Likewise, we also have footage and images of us helping our friend with his new boat project a couple of times, and there are the bits and pieces of canoe footage that we have, too. There’s also potential for a couple of catch-up videos to be put together, before we get to building Firefly again, and exploring ‘int wild!

All the more reason to stick around, I think.

We don’t plan on going anywhere, we just might not be regular.

  1. Nobody ever said life was easy and buying an old boat will never make it easier but will make it more interesting , and it’s great for dreaming about too. Which sometimes is enough.
Share what you can if you have time , you are entertaining. I hope you mum continued to improve.
Have you visited any of the other north wales ‘boat’ you tube channels ? Plenty of inspiration out there ! Cheers Warren , also struggling to work on various boat projects too!

    1. Hi Warren, thanks, I am well now, thank you!

Yes, it’s definitely a much more interesting life with Firefly in the picture. The canoe (Serenity), even more so. Huge thanks for the support, and for making it over here to read our stuff. We appreciate it very much.

      Emma.
